October 20: Get DEAD SERIOUS in New York and LA
It’s a big week for filmmaker Michael J. Hein; not only is the New York City Horror Film Festival, for which he serves as director, in full swing (with a kickass launch party last night), but DEAD SERIOUS, his second feature (after BIOHAZARDOUS), screens on both coasts in the next few days. It’ll be shown this Friday, October 21 at 10 p.m. at the Hollywood Film Festival, taking place at the Arclight Cinemas, 6360 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Then it’ll play as an out-of-competition feature at the NYC Fest this Saturday, October 22 at 8 p.m., preceded by Tom Savini’s CHILL FACTOR: HOUSECALL short, at the Tribeca Cinemas, 54 Varick Street (near Canal Street).

DEAD SERIOUS, which Joe Sullivan directed and Hein produced from the duo’s script, takes place in a New York City gay bar overtaken by a televangelist and his right-wing terrorist gang, aiming to “convert” homosexuals with a new serum on live television. What the religious wacko doesn’t know is that one of his allies is a 200-year-old vampire with his own agenda. Felissa (SLEEPAWAY CAMP) Rose, Michael Weingartner, Brian Gianci, Patrick Swearingen and Thomas A. Cahill star; Anthony C. Pepe, Hein’s programming director for the Festival, created the makeup FX. You can find out more about Hein’s movies at the official website of his Moodude Films. —Michael Gingold
